A space where outsiders support each other.

“After uni I felt so isolated from the art world. What I’d been exposed to just wasn’t me. Over the last few years I’ve reconnected, and found a place with all the outsiders, and we’re all supporting each other, working really hard, and doing it ourselves …and it’s the best.” Daisy Parris mentions. “My studio is my safe space, but it’s also a space where I confront and challenge myself“. In her recent exhibition “Can Everyone Cope?” at The Chopping Block Gallery, Peckham—the artist presents the viewer with a very heavy question, in which, depending on the day, the answer to the question may change.  In fact, Daisy’s works often confront the viewer to respond to loaded questions in which only the options of ‘yes’ and ‘no’ are left as answers. “I’m aware that I have completely simplified the issue or topic, and it’s a much bigger conversation to have, in terms of politics, mental health issues, etc. but I’ve realised that sometimes these issues have to be simplified for a conversation to start about them.” And that’s her way into starting these conversations. We recently met the artist in her studio at Brixton to talk about answers, questions and artistic collaboration.
